Forcing me to practice my Kiswahili almost immediately upon arrival to Kenya, Bernard’s thirst for progress is incredible. His work leading the Waste Management team is pretty challenging and often quite dirty, but rich with potential. I had the pleasure of getting to develop a pilot city-composting program with him that has huge potential for addressing some of the challenges for the community, the soil fertility on the farm here at CTC, as well as to serve as a teaching model for sustainable agriculture practices in the area. Our hope is that eventually, we can scale up the number of clients who are participating in the composting program, which will in turn produce more material to be turned into compost on the farm. This can then be applied to the fields that grow the food for the cafe and for the community! A full cycle of fertility!
Always with a smile on his face and a brain full of ideas, its never hard not to smile back.
